February events in Dawn Farm’s free community education series –

The Dawn Farm Education Series is a valuable, free source of helpful, hopeful, practical information about substance use disorders, recovery, family concerns and related topics for people throughout Southeast Michigan. We’d like to ask your help to inform your followers about upcoming Education Series programs.
The following programs will be presented in February 2018:
Does Addiction Treatment Work? will be presented on Tuesday February 20, 2018, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm; by Dr. Carl Christensen, MD, Ph.D., D-FASAM. Dr. Christensen will review research on the various options available for treatment of and recovery from substance use disorders, including Twelve Step, residential, and medication assisted therapy, the scientific studies that do and do not support their use and other controversial issues. The presentation will include a short demonstration of naloxone (Narcan) resuscitation.
Relapse Prevention will be presented on Tuesday February 27, 2018, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm; by Erik Anderson LMSW, CAADC, University of Michigan Counseling and Psychological Services. Understanding the relapse process helps recovering people develop an effective plan to identify and prevent relapse. This program will discuss the dynamics of relapse, factors that contribute to relapse, signs that may forewarn of relapse, how to develop a relapse prevention plan, and creative, effective strategies to handle both every-day and high-risk situations.

WHO’S IT FOR: People interested for any reason, personal or professional – ALL ARE WELCOME!
COST: Admission is FREE and open to all. No registration is required. A certificate to document attendance can be provided on request. FREE CE credit for addiction professionals is provided.
