LESLIE SCIENCE & NATURE CENTER TO HOST ANNUAL MONARCH MIGRATION FESTIVAL

September 16, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

LESLIE SCIENCE & NATURE CENTER TO HOST ANNUAL MONARCH MIGRATION FESTIVAL

Join international conservation efforts and celebrate the incredible monarch butterfly at the annual Monarch Migration Festival at the Leslie Science & Nature Center (LSNC) on Sunday, September 16, 2018 – 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Every year, waves of monarch butterflies migrate over mountains, forests, and deserts in the United States to reach their wintering grounds in Mexico. Join LSNC in a celebration of the monarch butterfly’s migration, and help contribute to conservation efforts for monarchs by engaging in a variety of butterfly-related activities. LSNC’s Wildlife Manager, Lannis Smith shares with us the importance of this festival. “The Monarch Migration Festival serves as a symbol for what we as a society can do to protect and conserve such a captivating species. Through education, conservation, and a whole lot of fun, we at LSNC hope this festival will spread the joy and curiosity of the magnificent journey of these butterflies!”

Learn about the challenging journey monarchs take every year, have your face painted, and meet local experts and vendors who support butterfly conservation efforts. Vendors include Ann Arbor Backyard Beekeepers, Ann Arbor National History Museum, Project Grow, Washtenaw County Parks, Plantwise and more! There will also be food from Ray’s Hot Dogs available for purchase. The cost of this event is $5 per person. Participants who pre-register will receive a tagged monarch butterfly to release. Pre-registration is open until Friday, September 14. You can register online at lesliesnc.org.
