The Northville Art House presents NATURAL FORMS: Figurative and Landscape Works

February 1 @ 8:00 am - February 23 @ 5:00 pm

The Northville Art House presents NATURAL FORMS: Figurative and Landscape Works by Ann Kelly, Nora Venturelli, and Fran Wolok. This exhibition features figurative and landscape drawings and paintings inspired by human dynamics, animal forms, and natural scenery.

With over forty years of award-winning art experience, Ann Kelly of West Bloomfield captures human and natural subjects using charcoal, pastel, and watercolor. Her work reflects the appreciation of nature’s fleeting design whether found in a distinguished facial expression or a play of light across a river.

Born in Argentina, Nora Venturelli resides in Ann Arbor. She earned a BFA from the University of Michigan and a MFA from Eastern Michigan University. She currently teaches drawing and painting at the University of Michigan Stamps School of Art & Design. Venturelli is captivated by human dynamics — how people move, communicate, interact, and present themselves. Her mixed media paintings from the Vice Versa series, a selection of which will be on view, reveal the layers and intricacies of the human form as well as human character.

“The title of the series reflects the morphing of my drawing into painting with the objective that my painting manifest the same gestural and linear characteristics of my drawing, and vice versa,” describes Venturelli.

Fran Wolok of Bloomfield studied at the Avni School of Art in Israel before she earned a BFA in Industrial Design from Wayne State University. She captures the transient effects of light and color on natural forms. She adds calligraphic brushstrokes to depict nature’s subtleties and tweaks the composition to guide the viewers’ eye in and around her acrylic and oil landscapes.

Also on view is work by emerging artist, Todd Myers of Waterville, Ohio. Rough yet refined, the art of Myers tells stories of love, loss, pain, struggle, faith, freedom, and redemption. Technically, the pieces are a build up of many, many layers through a process of construction and deconstruction repeated several times until a compelling image emerges. Painted on both canvas and wood, the pieces explore and inspire storytelling through color and technique, which gives viewers a fresh and provocative insight into their own creativity.

NATURAL FORMS opens with a free public reception on Friday, February 1 from 6 – 9 p.m. The exhibition runs through February 23 during Art House hours, Tuesday-Friday 12-5 p.m. and Saturday 12-4 p.m. The Northville Art House is located at 215 W. Cady in Northville, MI, by phone 248-344-0497 and online at www.northvillearthouse.org.
