The Northville Art House presents PATTERNS + SYMBOLS
October 5, 2018 @ 8:00 am - October 27, 2018 @ 5:00 pm
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Northville Art House Presents PATTERNS + SYMBOLS: The Art of Hiroko Lancour
The Northville Art House presents PATTERNS + SYMBOLS featuring hand-dyed fabrics, ink drawings, acrylic paintings and paper weavings by Japanese native Hiroko Lancour. Often methodical and process-oriented, Lancour shares a body of mixed media work with repetitive motifs and underlying symbolism. Visitors have the opportunity to learn more about the artist and her work through a unique interactive drawing where chance dictates the outcome.
Born and raised in Japan, Hiroko Lancour received her MFA from Wayne State University. She is a mixed-media artist with cross-cultural aesthetics between East and West. Her early education and career in information technology has added to her artistic expressions. She frequently employs the use of pattern, repetition, geometry and structural organization. Discovering underlying meanings in repetitive patterns and procedures has become one of her focal points.
Lancour expounds on her artistic process, “Repetition captivates me…I use it to get into the zone, a so-called flow, which is conducive to focusing on the task at hand. I often find myself in a flow while working on labor-intensive, manual repetitive procedures.”
PATTERNS + SYMBOLS opens with a free public reception on Friday, October 5 from 6 – 9 p.m. The exhibition runs through October 27 during Art House hours, Tuesday-Friday 12-5 p.m. and Saturday 12-4 p.m. The Northville Art House is located at 215 W. Cady in Northville, MI and online at www.northvillearthouse.org.
