What Would a Dementia-Friendly Community be Like?

July 17, 7-8:30 PM Free admission

Holy Faith Church Social Hall 6299 Ann Arbor Saline Rd, Saline.

It’s easy to get lost when you can’t remember the directions someone just gave you; it’s also easy to get frustrated when you can’t respond to people as quickly as they want you to. But people, organizations and businesses in dementia-friendly communities have found that it is not hard to help their friends, neighbors and customers avoid getting lost and frustrated. It does not take much effort to enable people living with dementia to enjoy a wide range of activities in a dementia-friendly community.

No local municipalities have achieved that status, but at Holy Faith Church’s “Envisioning a Dementia Friendly Community” presentation, you’ll hear about the sorts of sensible programs and practices that specific Dementia Friendly communities have implemented. Come hear about how Purple Angels help First Responders in North Carolina, and about how diners reserve Purple Tables in Massachusetts. Hear about dementia-aware ninth graders in Alabama and dementia friendly parks in Ohio. Hear about the business, and the social benefits, dementia friendly communities in Colorado, Minnesota and Great Britain have realized, and what it might take to develop a dementia friendly community right here.

This free presentation is the final talk in Holy Faith Church’s 11 week In This Together Dementia Awareness program. Free literature will be available about various aspects of dementia, from government agencies, the Alzheimer’s Association and other sources. For further program information see holy-faith-church.org. Holy Faith has abundant parking, no steps, wide doors, and plenty of seating. All are welcome.
